Launching in early 2019, the Bristol Culture Standard is a set of pledges around best employment and working practice in arts and culture. Organisations and employers in the cultural sector across the city will be invited to sign up and deliver these standards by 2020. The standards will help improve conditions for everyone who contributes to culture and arts in the city.
Arnolfini and Watershed and Bristol City Council Arts and Events Team have come together to catalyse this city-wide conversation. Bristol City Council and the DIY Arts Network have helped us to shape as inclusive a conversation as possible towards co-writing the Bristol Culture Standard pledges. Initial development work has shown that an inclusive and collaborative approach to writing the pledges is imperative to ensure that real change happens and so, we’ve designed a ‘co-writing’ process.
In November and December 2018 we ran five sessions across Bristol. These sessions were designed by a range of freelance facilitators to gather feedback and co-write the Bristol Culture Standard. Numbers were limited to 25 people per session and freelance bursaries were offered to those needing support to attend.
All Bristol Culture Standard Workshops are now fully completed. If you were unable to attend or have only learnt about the process and want to share your thoughts, then please complete this short form: https://bit.ly/2G809jg
